Who we are

Turton Tower is a distinctive English country house in the small village of Turton, located within the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen. Originally built by the Tudor Orrell family to defend their land, it later became a luxurious home that was lavishly furnished and extended in both the Tudor and early Stuart periods. Turton Tower is a scheduled ancient monument and Grade I Listed building, capturing the spirit of the Tudor and Victorian ages and displaying one of the finest collections of period furniture and paintings in the region. At Turton pupils can tour the house with experienced costumed interpreters, handling replica objects from the period and find out how the house changed during the Tudor period and how the rich and poor lived their lives. Pupils can also tour the outside of the house and take part in sessions such as ‘Homes from the Past’ or ‘Castles and Castle Life.’ There are themed events and special weeks such as ‘Victorian Christmas’ scheduled throughout the year.
