Who we are

The Grand in Clitheroe is an arts venue which has a regular and changing programme of film, performance and workshops. Their ambition is to provide a space where schools, young people, families and the community can experience world class performances and creative activity. The state of the art auditorium is home to a professional recording studio as well as contemporary dance rehearsal rooms, meeting rooms available for hire and a bistro. The Grand’s works with schools is aimed at inspiring young people, helping them to be confident and reach their potential through engaging with the arts. They host schools’ performances, awards ceremonies and activities and provide technical support for schools to ensure that any performance is professionally staged to show young people’s work in the best light. They facilitate drama workshops and projects in schools and their youth forum enables primary and secondary pupils to have a real input into the programme and direction of The Grand, in particular the schools and projects team. Projects include ‘Myskillz’ a programme aimed at supporting young people in the transition from primary to secondary school. Pupils interested in a career in theatre arts, event management, as a theatre technician or studio technician are able to work at The Grand on work placement, getting an invaluable hands on experience of the professional work environment. The recording studio and sound technician can be booked to record school bands, choirs and voiceover for performances. The Grand’s state of the art equipment and space enables pupils to perform, learn and work in a professional theatre environment which places high value on their creativity and skills and supports and extends their learning in school. The experience of working alongside technical professionals supports young people’s skills development, self confidence and aspiration.
