Who we are

The Fusilier Museum is much more than a military museum. Their diverse schools programme combines interactive teaching methods with informative storytelling to create fun learning. The museum tells the story of the Fusiliers through a child friendly exhibition, guided tours, school visits, family crafts, community projects, and family and military history research. The museum is located on Moss Street in the centre of Bury in a building that used to be known as the Arts and Crafts Centre. The museum moved into the building in 2009 and is also home to Bury Tourist Information Centre, Regimental Headquarters for Lancashire and an excellent cafe. A wide range of workshops are available for primary schools including sessions such as Victorians, the First World War, the Second World War and Remembrance. Activities include concocting trench slime, discovering weaponry, making poppies, dressing up, going on parade and writing to fighting Fusiliers across the globe. These varied activities build on work in the classroom by maintaining curriculum links to drama, music, art, citizenship, literacy, science, history and numeracy. In addition to workshops the museum offers object inspired guided tours to feed your pupils’ curiosity and satisfy their appetite for discovery. The schools programme encourages pupils to acquire the essential skills for developing their creativity and comprehending the curriculum through participatory learning outside the classroom.
