Who we are

The Citadel Arts Centre is an inclusive, multi disciplinary arts centre and performance venue in St Helens town centre. The Citadel provides access to the arts and strives to be a flagship for creativity and artistic excellence. The Citadel prides itself on being fully inclusive and develops specific programmes for young people, disabled people, vulnerable and elderly people as well as people from disadvantaged communities. The Citadel runs established community programmes and develops bespoke projects in conjunction with schools. Examples of some of the established programmes available for young people include; ‘Hands On’ Community Arts, a programme of practical arts and education workshops encouraging participation in a wide range of art forms such as drama, dance, singing and visual art; ‘Music Mecca,’ a music workshop and performance programme for disadvantaged young people to improve skills, increase confidence and improve well-being and ‘Citi-Dis-Arts,’ a programme of arts activity for disabled, vulnerable and elderly people to improve their well-being. The Educational Programme includes work with schools and the delivery of St Helens College music technology courses. The Volunteer Programme is a successful programme comprising long term volunteer placements and short term work experience for people of all ages and abilities offering experience in administrative and events focused roles. As a performance venue The Citadel offers an eclectic mix of events including music (blues, folk, rock and pop), comedy, poetry and both professional and community theatre. The venue also has an Exhibition Gallery which shows at least three exhibitions per year, most recently an exhibition by students from St Helens College. The venue also has community spaces for workshop and performance hire including the Citadel Auditorium with 300 capacity, a Dance Studio and the Lynex Hopkins meeting room.
