Who we are

The Museum of Liverpool reflects the city’s global significance through its unique geography, history and culture. It explores how the port, its people and their creative and sporting history have shaped the city. This new purpose built Museum has been designed with children and education practitioners to create inspirational spaces and interactivity to support a range of young people’s learning styles and to show the real and diverse history of Liverpool. The Museum is situated overlooking the Mersey Estuary in the Albert dock a short walking distance from the Liverpool Maritime Museum, International Slavery Museum and Tate Liverpool. Galleries include The People’s Republic, Wondrous Place, Skylight Gallery, Global City, Liverpool Overhead Railway, History Detectives, The Great Port, and City Soldiers. There are a number of interactive multimedia experiences including the free Beatles Show, The Kicking and Screaming Football show and The Lumiere Brothers project, which imaginatively recreates what it was like to sit on the Liverpool Overhead Railway in its heyday in the late 1890s. Sessions are available for early years groups through to students in Higher Education and themes include Toys through Time, Transport, Victorians, the 1960s, Archaeology and a History Challenge which uses ICT skills to explore a interactive map of Merseyside. All the Museum led sessions are free of charge and use the Early Years Foundation Stage goals and National Curriculum as a starting point. Little Liverpool , a Clore Learning Space, is a dedicated gallery for children under seven, which groups can book for free to use with a museums facilitator. Teachers can also choose to explore the Museum by themselves with their group, using one of the downloadable trails. A lunchroom can be booked for groups to eat a packed lunch. There is a very informative website which can help you plan an exciting and informative visit for you and your pupils.
