Who we are

Come and visit this newly refurbished hidden gem of a museum set within a historic grade II listed former court house where schools can step back in time. Take part in a Victorian court case, receive a visit from a Ministry of Defence representative to learn about World War II government initiatives, or try your hand at archaeology. The Museum brings 2000 years of Lancashire's history to life, through eight new interactive galleries. The collections are wide, from Prehistoric axes to Lancashire looms, Victorian shackles to comedienne Hylda Baker’s famous costumes. This is also the place to explore the collections of the 14th / 20th King’s Hussars and the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry. The Museum’s school sessions include role play, object handling, and creative work, as well as an opportunity for schools to join Lancashire Museum’s loan box scheme to borrow objects for an extended period to inspire work back in the classroom.
