Who we are

Overlooking the beautiful Morecambe Bay this friendly Museum explores the story of Fleetwood from past to present, including its heyday as a Victorian seaside resort, its cargo trade, ferry and lifeboat services, its docks and trawler men. It is housed in the old Custom House, a Grade II listed building designed by the famous architect Decimus Burton. Through role-play and object handling sessions, schools are given the opportunity to explore and discover Fleetwood’s heyday as a Victorian seaside resort and its industrious fishing heritage. These sessions are offered all-year round. The Museum also programmes special events for schools, such as a new session based on the museum’s forthcoming exhibition 'From Egypt's Sands to Northern Hills' (29 March to 9 June 2013). Look out for special events each term; for example this May there will be a focus on the Victorian seaside holiday which will include role-play, dressing up, toys and fun for KS1/2 pupils. Teachers’ quote to use:- "Well led sessions of an appropriate length… All the staff were impressed with how focussed, attentive and inspired the children were."
