Who we are

Farfield Mill is a space to celebrate creativity and heritage. Housed in a former Victorian Woollen Mill over four floors, learn about the history of the Mill, see open artists' studios and beautiful gallery spaces exhibiting contemporary art and craft. Our purpose is to (1) promote understanding of the history and significance of the local wool industry and (2) support traditional and contemporary art and craft creative enterprises.

What we do

Visits to the Mill are self-guided and we would recommend moving around the mill in small, supervised groups. Across our 4 floors, you will find information about the hand processes used to turn fleece into fabric, with demonstrators on Thursdays and Fridays. A heritage exhibition explains the processes used in a textile mill, who worked here, children in mills, accidents, regulations and the 1909 fire. There is also a gallery, shop and artists' studios.
