What's the Modulo Programme?

The programme supports you to establish or develop a small ensemble - a Modulo - of between 4 - 10 young people. The players can be of any instrument skill level or experience - whether tab-reading guitarists, open string players or keyboard players (who we encourage to play on melodicas at our Modulo Meets). We give you all the notation and rehearsal resources you need to get your Modulo started in school, and then everyone comes together twice a year - once regionally, in the spring, and once nationally, in the summer.

This year, we are excited offer an in-school workshop to every Modulo group in the run up to the Modulo Meet. These will be delivered by one of our artistic partners: BBC Philharmonic, City of London Sinfonia, and the LEAP Ensemble.

Who can take part?

The programme is open to any ensembles for young people aged 11-18. Your ensemble can be small (many Modulos have 3-4 players) or 'non-traditional' (guitars and keyboards welcome!).

How much does it cost?

We ask schools who can afford to to contribute £250 to participating in the programme - this covers access to this year's and previous years' music and supporting resources, and attendance at two Modulo Meets.

However, we're aware that this is prohibitive for some groups' budgets. If this is you, please let us know on the Participation Form! We have ways of supporting you, including through your local music hub and bursary options.

What's happening in Modulo 2019?

This year's theme is WordPlay, exploring the relationship between music and words and how music can communicate meaning and tell stories. This theme is covering work across the three Orchestras for All programmes, and we've been busy creating some exciting arrangements and resources that we hope all Modulo members will enjoy getting stuck into this autumn.

We'll be playing:

-Pastime with Good Company
-The Anvil Chorus
-Say a Little Prayer
-A Keelie Maoklay (a Ghanaian folk song)

As well as gaining access to password-protected resource repository with all the instrument parts, backing tracks and rehearsal and warm-up ideas you could ever want, you'll be sent a pack of resources including a bespoke score for your

What are Modulo Meets?

Modulo Meets are a chance for everyone participating in the programme to come together to rehearse the repertoire, and participate in a creative response workshop. Modulo Meets are led by a team of experienced professional musicians, including our artistic partners, in each instrumental section.

The day culminates in an informal sharing of work from the day, which parents and school community members are welcome to attend, also streamed live on our Facebook page.

Come and join us!

We still have a couple of North West places available for our Modulo Meet at Friends' Meeting House, Manchester on 2 April.

You'd also be invited to join one of our National Meets, either in Birmingham on 5 July or London on 12 July.

To sign up, just complete our Participation Form as soon as possible!

We look forward to meeting you and your young musicians!
