Free Event to Help Teachers Champion Creative Careers in Schools

Posted: 02/06/2017

On Friday 23rd June, dot-art Schools and partners Liverpool John Moores University are holding an inspirational day of advocacy to help education professionals to champion the value and impact of studying art. The event will begin with a tour of the LJMU Art and Design Academy, followed by a visit to the 2017 dot-art Schools exhibition in St Georges Hall, then finish by hearing from three expert speakers on the diverse and vital range of careers that are opened up by a creative education.

dot-art Schools is an innovative, online, inter school art competition culminating in an high profile exhibition of work by year 5 and year 9 pupils. Its aim is to nurture talent, raise ambition and highlight creative career paths. The programme is now in its fifth year and has just launched in Cheshire following great success in Liverpool.

However, while the impact of budget cuts and the removal of creative subjects from the curriculum are making schemes like this more and more important, it is clear the teachers and parents are sometimes unable to appreciate or communicate the enormous value of a creative education and the impact it can have on a student’s life, whether or not they choose to follow an overtly “creative” path.

dot-art Schools and LJMU are holding this Creative Careers day for head teachers, senior leaders, school governors and art & design curriculum leaders to find out more about the impact of the creative industries nationally, hear guest speakers making the case for how studying art & design can benefit young people at school and beyond, discover the range of creative career pathways that exist and take away compelling evidence and further information to share with colleagues, students and their families.

The event will take place across three venues; the LJMU Art and Design Academy, St George’s Hall and The Walker Art Gallery. It will begin at 9am and end by 2.30pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Tickets are FREE but must be pre-booked by calling 0345 0176660 or visiting: championcreativecareers.eventbrite.com
